Why in News?

Important Key Points:

  • Expansion of Gunotsav Assessments: The citizen-led evaluation initiative, Gunotsav, has expanded its reach from evaluating 12,000 schools in 2017 to covering 44,077 schools in 2025.

  • Increase in A+ and A Grades: In 2025, a total of 27,252 schools were ranked as A+ or A, marking a 7% increase over the previous year.

  • Overall Improvement in School Performance: An impressive 83.5% of schools have been ranked in the A+ and A categories in 2025, reflecting the effectiveness of the state’s efforts to enhance educational standards.

  • Incentives for High-Performing Schools: The Assam government has incentivized each A+ category school with a cash reward of ₹25,000 to acknowledge and encourage high performance.

  • Consistent Excellence in Districts: For the fourth consecutive year, Sivasagar district retained its top position, followed by Golaghat and Dibrugarh, indicating sustained excellence in these regions.
