The Punjab government has decided to transfer seven associates of jailed MP and radical preacher Amritpal Singh from Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail to a prison in Punjab.
Their detention under the National Security Act (NSA) will not be extended by the state government.
The transfer is expected to take place within the next two to three days, with a Punjab Police team already in Dibrugarh to oversee the process.
The individuals being transferred include Basant Singh, Bhagwant Singh Bajekhana, Gurmeet Singh Bukkanwal, Daljit Singh Kalsi, Gurinderpal Singh Guri Aujla, Harjit Singh, and Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal.
These associates will face legal proceedings in connection with the 2023 Ajnala police station attack.
Amritpal Singh, leader of the ‘Waris Punjab De’ organisation, along with nine associates, has been detained under NSA in Dibrugarh Jail for the past two years.
