Cost Escalation: The revised cost estimate for the Jorhat-Majuli bridge has increased by over ₹93 crore, raising the total cost from ₹925.47 crore to ₹1,019.16 crore.
Project Delays: Approved in February 2021, the two-lane, 6,812.5-meter bridge was initially set for completion by July 2025, but as of February 2024, only 30.65% of the work was completed, with ₹192.50 crore spent.
Contractor Withdrawal: The initial contractor, UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd (UPSBCL), abandoned the project in September 2024 and officially withdrew in December 2024, leading to further delays.
Parliamentary Concern: Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi raised concerns in Parliament, emphasizing the hardships faced by residents due to the stalled project.
Government Response: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced the revised cost in an office memorandum and stated that tendering for the remaining work will commence soon.
