Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the state’s accelerated efforts to develop world-class sports infrastructure in anticipation of hosting the 2027 National Games. This initiative aims to position Assam as a serious contender for the event, reflecting the state’s commitment to promoting sports and related infrastructure.

Important Key Points:

Amingaon International Cricket Stadium:
- Capacity: 20,000 seats
- Expected Completion: February 2026
- Additional Facilities: Indoor badminton stadium and swimming pool
- Purpose: Designed to host large-scale events, including sports and cultural festivals
Other Major Developments:
- Nehru Stadium, Guwahati: Refurbishment expected to be completed by June 2025
- Chandrapur Stadium: New stadium under development to serve as a multipurpose venue
- State-wide Initiatives: Sports complexes being established in all 126 Assembly constituencies to foster local talent and promote sports at the grassroots level
Enhanced Connectivity:
- Brahmaputra Bridge: The bridge connecting North Guwahati to the city is slated for inauguration by December 2025, ensuring seamless access to the Amingaon stadium and other facilities.
