Centre Sanctions 3.73 Lakh Additional Homes for PMAY-G Beneficiaries in Assam
Why in News?
- Central Government announced the sanctioning of 3.73 lakh additional houses for Assam under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G). This move aims to ensure that nearly all identified beneficiaries in the state are covered under the scheme.

Previous Sanction: In January 2025, the Centre had approved 3 lakh houses under PMAY-G for Assam.

Current Sanction: An additional 3.73 lakh houses have now been sanctioned, bringing the total to 6.73 lakh houses approved in 2025.

Beneficiary Coverage: With these approvals, nearly all identified beneficiaries in Assam are now covered under PMAY-G.
Progress and Implementation:

Completed Houses: As of March 2025, Assam had completed 20 lakh houses under PMAY-G.

Total Beneficiaries: Approximately 26 lakh beneficiaries have been enrolled under the scheme in the state.

Geotagging Initiative: Geotagging, a mandatory step to receive PMAY benefits, has commenced. Local women and Jeevika Sakhis from self-help groups are voluntarily conducting geotagging free of charge. Beneficiaries can also geotag their own houses to access the scheme’s benefits.
Paddy Procurement Drive:

Procurement Target: The state government aims to procure 100% of paddy from farmers before June 30, 2025.

Progress: Out of the targeted 5.85 lakh metric tonnes, 4.97 lakh metric tonnes have already been procured.

Farmer Incentives: Effective April 1, 2025, rice farmers receive Rs 2,550 per quintal, and mustard farmers earn Rs 6,450 per quintal, including bonuses above the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
