The Centre will invest ₹3 lakh crore in road infrastructure development in Assam, as announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the Rajya Sabha.
The investment will focus on 4-lane and 6-lane highways and multiple bridges over the Brahmaputra River.
Gadkari emphasized the government’s policy that quality roads require financial contribution, justifying the need for toll gates.
In response to concerns raised by MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan about non-compliant toll gates, Gadkari clarified that tolls are essential for funding projects, but they are only levied on four-lane roads, not on two-lane roads.
