Why in News?

  • Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, during his two-day tour to Karbi Anglong, dedicated development projects worth over ₹100 crore, aimed at boosting connectivity, infrastructure, education, and social welfare in the hill district.

Important Key Points:

  • Development Projects Worth ₹100 Crore:

    • On the first day of his visit, the CM inaugurated projects focused on road construction, widening, upgrading bridges, and improving infrastructure near Rengbonghom H.S. School, Diphu.

  • Focus on Early Education:

    • Distribution of pre-school kits to Anganwadi Centres to create a joyful, learning-focused environment for children.

    • Emphasis on play-based education for holistic child development.

  • Support for Anganwadi Workers:

    • Remuneration hike for Anganwadi workers and helpers from October 1, 2025.

    • Announcement of a one-time grant for them as well.

  • Major Educational Institutions Planned:

    • Plans to establish a Medical College, Engineering College, Sainik School, and Cancer Hospital in Karbi Anglong.

    • Government to upgrade academic infrastructure from Anganwadi level to college level to ensure quality education and create a skilled workforce.

  • Key Infrastructure Updates:

    • Diphu Flyover (1.4 km, ₹198 crore): Target completion by Dec 31, 2025, to reduce traffic congestion.

    • Hamren–Tumpreng Road (29.7 km): To be completed by December this year.

    • Rongjangphong–Amtreng Road (23 km): Widening work is underway in West Karbi Anglong.

    • Cancer Hospital: Construction to be completed this year.

    • ₹1 crore grant for Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Stage in Diphu.

  • Cultural Initiatives:

    • Unveiling of statues of Reng Bonghom and Queen Kareng Terongpi in Diphu as a mark of respect to regional icons.
