Assam Govt to Set Up 32 Dialysis Centres; Opposition Calls for Stricter Tobacco Laws
The Assam government is establishing 32 new dialysis centres and partnering with private hospitals to ensure each district has access to dialysis facilities.
Health & Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal announced this initiative in the Assembly on Friday, highlighting the significant increase in dialysis beds over the past year.
In response to a query from Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia, Singhal emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing rising cases of kidney diseases and cancer.
Saikia, citing Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, reported that cancer cases in Assam increase by 40,000 to 46,000 annually.
He also attributed cancer to smoking and kidney ailments to contaminants like urea, pesticides, and fertilizers in food.
