Minister Patowary Reports 3.35 Lakh Hectares of Assam’s Reserved Forests Encroached

  • Encroachment on Reserved Forests in Assam: A total of 3,35,322.60 hectares of land in Assam’s reserved forests are under encroachment.

    • Encroached by neighboring states: 83,811.3974 hectares
    • Encroached by state residents: 2,50,350.0666 hectares
    • Encroached by tea gardens: 1,161.136 hectares
  • Government Action: From 2021 to December 2024, 10,905.859 hectares of encroached forest land have been cleared.

  • Support for Forest Villages: The government is working on a plan to provide monthly stipends to 946 heads of forest villages in Assam.
