  • Assam has inaugurated the Northeast’s first state-of-the-art drug testing laboratory at Jalukbari Ayurvedic College in Guwahati. The facility, built at a cost of ₹22 crore, aims to enhance drug quality assurance across the region.

Important Key Points:

  • Annual Testing Capacity: The lab is equipped to analyze approximately 5,000 drug samples each year, serving not only Assam but all eight northeastern states.

  • Modern Infrastructure: The three-story facility includes a reception area, sample storage rooms, administrative offices, a conference hall, and advanced laboratories fitted with state-of-the-art instruments.

  • Operational Oversight: Managed by the Department of Health and Family Welfare through the Commissionerate of Food Safety and Drug Control Administration, the lab is connected to the central drug testing lab in Delhi.

  • Enhanced Drug Monitoring: The facility will enable timely testing of drug samples collected by inspectors, reducing reliance on distant labs and facilitating swift action against counterfeit or substandard medications.
