Private Placement Agencies from Outside Assam Required to Register Under Local Legislation: Patowary

• Private placement agencies from outside Assam must register under The Assam Private Placement Agencies for Recruitment of Workers (Regulation) Act, 2019 to operate in the state.
• Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary announced this in the Assam Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
• In response to a query by Congress member Debabrata Saikia, the Minister stated that the Labour Welfare Department has directed all commercial establishments to comply with state labour laws.
• The registration process under the Act is set to begin on April 1.
• Saikia raised concerns based on a media report, alleging that private placement agencies recruited a significant number of candidates from outside Assam for Grade 3 and 4 posts at AIIMS Guwahati, thereby depriving local aspirants.
