RPF Deploys 45 Drones for Enhanced Surveillance of Railway Land in Northeast India

The launch of ‘Mission 250 plus’ marks a large-scale eviction and redevelopment drive to reclaim railway land in New Guwahati. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has procured 45 AI-powered drone cameras.

Purpose: To enhance surveillance and monitor railway land across the NFR zone and prevent illegal encroachments.

A dedicated AI-based software is being developed to detect fresh encroachments like huts, buildings, and other unauthorized structures via aerial surveys.

In February and March, RPF vacated:

210 illegally occupied railway quarters

27 unauthorized soft structures

4 unauthorized shops

Several kutcha structures

Eviction operations took place mainly in New Guwahati and Pandu areas with support from local police and NFR Engineering & Electrical staff.

‘Mission 250 plus’ launched to evict over 250 railway quarters in New Guwahati Railway Colony.

Future plans for restoration and better utilization of vacated quarters:

Merge Type-I quarters into larger Type-II units for better living conditions.

Fencing for enhanced safety of quarters.
