State Government’s Initiative for Urban Sanitation: The state government has announced plans to establish the first sewage treatment plant near Meghdoot Cinema Hall and Borsola Beel at an estimated cost of ₹1,460 crore.
Project Scope and Timeline: According to Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, the plant will serve central areas of the city, with construction set to begin within three months and completion expected in approximately five years.
Future Expansion: In the next phase, two additional sewage treatment plants will be developed in Silsako and Boragaon to further enhance the city’s sanitation infrastructure.
Environmental Impact: The three treatment plants aim to significantly improve cleanliness and prevent groundwater contamination. Additionally, the legacy waste project in Boragaon is nearing completion, and the 80-100 bigha dumping site will soon be transformed into an urban forest.
