State’s Liquor Revenue Surges to ₹4,281 Cr in 2024-25, Tripling Since 2016
Significant Revenue Growth: Assam’s liquor revenue has surged over the past eight years, reaching ₹4,281 crore in 2024-25 (until January), compared to ₹1,433 crore in 2016-17.
Excise Minister’s Statement: During the Question Hour in the State Legislative Assembly, Excise Minister Atul Bora provided an overview of the state’s liquor industry.
Current Liquor Outlets: Assam has 1,836 foreign liquor retail outlets, 1,060 bars, and 996 country liquor shops. Country liquor mahals are no longer operational.
Licensing Expansion: Since 2016, the government has issued 150 new licenses for foreign liquor retail outlets and 711 bar licenses.
